Are you looking for private music lessons in the Malden, MO area? Do you need
music for a special occasion? Or maybe you just want to keep up with musical events in Southeast Missouri. If so, you've come to the right place.
My website will tell you about the private music lessons and services I offer & many other music related things.

My name is Cindy Lester & I grew up in Malden & began taking piano lessons at age five from Frances Arends; over the next 13 years I also studied with Pat Reece and Janice Stewart. During this time I taught myself guitar & took organ lessons from Clarice Goldsmith. I also played flute in the concert band & piano in the jazz band at Malden Schools for 7 years. At the same time I joined the school choir & stayed 6 years and was a choral accompanist as well. I graduated from Malden High School in 1975 & attended college to major in music. After college, I married Butch Lester, also from Malden

& we lived in Oklahoma & Colorado where I kept active in music. Over the years I've taught myself to play a few other instruments. In Oklahoma I gave music lessons & played flute in the Tulsa Community Band as well as being organist & handbell choir director for my church. While living in Colorado,in addition to giving music lessons, I played flute with the Alpine Orchestra, was a vocalist & flute soloist for the Wet Mountain Valley Chorale & pianist/organist/vocalist for the United Methodist Church in Westcliffe.

Since moving back to Malden I've been an organist/pianist for the First Presbyterian Church & am a member of the choir. I taught music at Malden Elementary School & because of requests from students I began giving private lessons again. I accept piano students of all abilities as well as guitar students who are at the beginner or beginning intermediate level. Music lessons are once a week in my home for 30 minutes & cost $60 per month. (4 lessons monthly) Music performance & theory books are not included in the monthly cost. Lessons on other instruments are available as follows: flute, organ & voice for all levels. Think you might want to learn to play more than one instrument? No problem-I have several students who are taking lessons on two instruments. References are available from current & former students. Please read my private music lesson policies on Page 5.

See my ads on the Classified page for the other musical services I offer. If you need music for a wedding, funeral, or other occasion call me. For more information or to sign up for music lessons email me at:

A crowd estimated between 1000-1200 gathered in Malden, MO Sept. 3, 2009 to see the newly remodeled downtown area. The audience was entertained by local musicians playing gospel, rock and blues and enjoyed food donated by area businesses as well as prizes and give aways. The high point of the evening was the turning on of the newly installed lighting system. The weather was perfect for this once in a lifetime event and from what I observed everyone, young and old, had a great time. I would encourage the city to continue to have more musical events like this in Malden's now beautiful downtown area!

If you attended the ceremony and enjoyed the music entertainment please let your Malden City officials know that you would like it to continue. Better yet, volunteer your time to help with any future events!

ENTERTAINING THE TROOPS!

(Pictured in the photos above from left to right, Al Mewhirter, Cindy Lester and Rev. Paul Williams)

During the ice storm of January 2009 which affected so many people in numerous states, my church, the First Presbyterian in Malden was fortunate enough to be able to prepare a daily meal for the people from Malden and other places who helped out during the crisis. For 5 days we fed members of the Malden Police Department, Malden Board of Public Works as well as power crew workers from Nixa, MO, Macon, MO, Kirkwood, MO and from the state of Minnesota in addition to members of the Missouri National Guard. After the meal on Feb. 1, Al Mewhirter, Cindy Lester and Rev. Paul Williams from the Presbyterian Church entertained the group with such songs as Somebody Touched Me, Amazing Grace, The Angels Rejoiced and other favorites.

Sgt. Leoni of the Missouri Natonal Guard Military Police borrowed Cindy's Taylor acoustic guitar and dazzled the crowd with his rendition of Sweet Home Alabama.

In spite of the unfortunate circumstances which drew everyone together, it was an honor to be able to pay back just a small amount of the generosity which we received from our out of town angels of mercy. From what I witnessed Malden was blessed by the help we received from everyone! A big thank you to everyone from Malden who worked so hard to restore power and keep things running as smoothly as possible and a special thanks goes to Malden Mayor Ray Santie who was on hand every day and helped keep morale high!
